Rad Luck Goes "Psycho" on Album 3 Years in the Making

Rad Luck, “Psycho”

Rad Luck, the Charlotte-based underground artist and producer, released his long-awaited “Psycho” album on August 28th, 2024. Psycho is the rapper’s most highly-anticipated project since releasing his 2019 “Knightmares to Sweet Dreams” album, which was featured in a variety of Lyrical Lemonade blog posts. With fans eagerly waiting 3 years for this new project, “Psycho” has finally come to fruition and was published after a series of unexpected delays over the past year.

Psycho contains 17 tracks, with a cohesive fast-paced feel, complemented by stylistic heavy autotuning throughout. “It’s really trap autotune s***,” says Rad Luck, “The message of the project is taking a negative and turning it into a positive.”

“Psycho” is Rad Luck’s first all-platform release since his “Split the Fanta” single from Late 2022, which stands atop his past discography at 25,000 Spotify streams. This new album also marks the first full-length release since his dual project drops in 2021, with “Fade Away” being released on April 23rd, 2021, and “Back from Hell” releasing a couple of months later on June 21st.

Rad Luck showcases his insightful and interesting performances over Psycho’s diverse selection of beats and instrumentals, with 5 of the tracks, Catch Up, Idk, lame, I Got Bands, and Foreign Car, being produced by the rapper himself.

Aside from taking control of engineering and production aspects, Rad Luck’s visual creativity shines in his graphic design work, with him creating Psycho’s cover art; featuring a collage of a woman’s face and mouth, with a gold cross necklace across her tongue and lips, alongside an overlayed tribal graphic in the center.

The artist finds pride in his self-sufficiency and wide range of talents, with Rad Luck creating, directing, and editing all of his currently-released music videos. “One thing about me is i do a lot of things myself, i made the psycho cover art myself. I produced 5 tracks on this album. & every music video i have out right now was filmed, edited and directed by me.”

Rad Luck’s early introductions to the music and creative industry came through his passion for photography and videography, doing freelance work for Charlotte artists in the regional scene. While Rad Luck explains that he “has (his) own motion” outside of the local influences, he tells us that his friends have “produced for Carti, D Savage, (and) UnoTheActivist”.

Psycho’s thematic lyricism revolves around Rad Luck’s relationship with mental health, citing it as a key aspect in his developing artistic journey. The project’s title, “Psycho”, acts as both a hyperbolic reference to his past personal struggles and a play on words toward the hard-hitting “insane” nature of the tape and its production. Rad Luck stated in a press release, I named the Project Psycho to parody my previous mental health situation. The Album goes crazy!”

Rad Luck highlights his feelings of insanity and a developing “crazy” mindset on Psycho’s 4th track, “Losing My Mind”, where he says;

“I got so much s*** on my mind,
My n***** be callin me crazy,
My Momma be callin me crazy,
Luh b**** I be goin too crazy”

In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, Rad Luck discusses his highly anticipated “Psycho” album, his inspirations and aspirations of achieving greatness, along with his message to the world of “Once you make it… weird is NORMAL.”
