Eugene's Poetic Lyrics & Psychedelic Video Adventure at the Luxury Hotel

Eugene, “GO!” & “Alone” | prod by eugene

Eugene, a Chicago artist with roots in the small town of Milledgeville, GA, is a lifelong creative with a dawning influence on his city's culture. Early connections made with fellow underground artists kache99, enveez, and the GCBF rap group, who have allowed him to network with countless artist in the buzzing rap scene of Chi-city.

Birth name Sal, Eugene grew up with a love for all things creativity. The lack of video games and technology in his childhood home forced Eugene to use his imagination and build the foundation for the abstract and unique creations he produces today. A life of drawing, reading, and diverse music tastes developed his mind from youth and continue to influence him today.

Eugene prides himself on his continued love of reading, with the artist explaining that you can often find him curled up with a novel when he is not performing on the mic. This educated and broad mindset is apparent in his music, with strong lyricism and a deep understanding of the english language and its poetic nature.

In addition to childhood influences, Eugene is experienced with utilizing different substances and altered mindsets to get into the creative flow. He accredits his discovery of weed during his high school years to solidifying his creative journey and aspirations post-graduation. He explains "all I wanted to do was roll a fat blunt and draw and freestyle and just do anything creative I could get my hands on."

In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, Eugene shares a wild story of a recent Shroom-induced music video shoot in a luxury hotel, his mainstream & underground inspirations, along with his messages to the world.

RSO Underground Interview with Eugene

Who are you?

Yo yo. I go by Eugene for my stage name but my people that’s close know me as Sal lol.

Where are you from? (How is the music scene there?)

So I mostly grew up in Georgia in a small town called Milledgeville but I currently reside in Chicago. The music scene out here is pretty nice honestly and without the support and encouragement of my community I wouldn’t have made the progress that I did. A lot of goats out here that definitely inspired me. Shout out enveez and kache99 too definitely put me in tune with a lot of people on the scene.

Why did you get into the music/creative industry?

Honestly as long as I can remember I loved to create things , and express myself. I wasn’t the type of kid who grew up on video games and tv. My parents would always encourage me to read and draw and listen to a variety of music and we often wouldn’t even have all the technology in the house that other families did so it forced me to be creative and I’m grateful ! Fast forward to high school when I discovered weed and other substances and it was a wrap 😂 from then on all I wanted to do was roll a fat blunt and draw and freestyle and just do anything creative I could get my hands on honestly.

Who and what inspires you?

As far as mainstream and commercial artists I have very few. If I had to give credit to anyone for inspiring me and my sound tho some of my biggest artists I had looked up to when I was younger were like young thug, lil uzi and honestly that’s about it ! I listen to a lot of stuff and find inspiration in it but none of them are that notable. And really even more than the mainstream I listen to all of my homies so once again shout out Kache99 shout out 103 beans and enveez and the whole GCBF. Those are my brothers fr. They inspire me along with my parents who are honestly the coolest people I know and have never been scared to not give a fuck what people think and have always been different and stood for what they believe in !

Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?

Honestly last week was a trip man I don’t have too many ridiculous stories or anything to be real with you but I was shooting some a couple videos for my singles “Alone” and “Deep” and it was a ton of fun! Rented out this fancy shmancy hotel downtown in the chi called the Drake, expensive for no reason lol but it looked great, had my homies over had some girls come out for the shoot. The shoot was all over the place cuz my guy @broprollysleep had just came in from Philly that day and between me tryna get my shit together and him being jet lagged shit was kinda crazy plus I had just checked in the hotel that day so everything was literally a mess man. Long story short tho we got it done even though we started super late, and at some point during the shoot I had consumed maybe 2gs of some STRONG mushrooms lol and was tripping balls taking off my shirt and embarrassing myself in front of the girls so after they leave I’m up all night long drinking with the good homie big Samo just getting wasted of this fifth of Irish whiskey. And we ended up making it through the whole night, came down and we’re still up in time to enjoy a great sunrise on lake shore drive right after. Ten of ten moment.

What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?

Honesty it’s a month or two old but since we just shot the video I’m about to start pushing my single “Alone” again that’s produced by my good good homie @darkksettt. That and this song “GO!” Are probably two of my favorites and two of my biggest songs at the moment. Definitely need everybody to tune in for the video drop too I promise you won’t wanna miss it !

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Man tbh I think a lot of people would be surprised to know that I love to read books. Just about everyday or every other day you could probably catch me curled up somewhere with a novel. I used to read a lot as a kid and the passion has been coming back lately.

Where can we find your music and art?

I’m everywhere honestly. I like to make my content as accessible and easy to find as possible. I’m on Instagram, tiktok, Twitter, Snapchat, everything really. And my music and videos are Available on SoundCloud , YouTube , Apple Music , Spotify and pretty much every streaming platform you can think of!

What is your message to the world?

Love yourself. Love others. Treat people how you wanna be treated. Be strong, yet fair. That’s about it for me man . Peace and love to y’all thank you so much.
