KHR Chance, "One Chance"
KHR Chance is an independent recording artist from Northeastern Ohio. He represents the new generation of his family's talent in the underground scene of the NEO and in performances throughout the country.
Inspired by his rapper father and raised in recording studios, Chance has developed a lifelong passion for music and recording. He spent his childhood and adolescence honing his craft and developing a unique sound, now translating into the signature of his artwork and music.
The artist describes his work as an experience, not just ordinary “music”. Chance utilizes beats and instrumentals to create a learning experience for the listener, allowing them an opportunity of vicariously living through the artist via poetic, yet relatable, lyrics and realized artistic visions.
Chance is currently in the rollout process of his debut studio project “One Chance”. This project showcases countless deep, introspective, and personal bars relating to the artist’s life experiences. These poems are performed confidently over the ethereal and spacey production, bringing a cohesive and personal feel to the overall work.
Fans may be surprised to hear that despite the heart wrenching and personal lyricism and diverse flows showcased throughout the project, not a single bar was prewritten or developed outside of the recording booth. The natural flow of consciousness and raw emotion creates an intimate connection between the listener and artist, tempting you to come back to the tape over and over. With so many details and secrets hidden within the songs, you will appreciate a new aspect of the art on each listen.
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, KHR Chance dives into childhood stories forming his personal history with music and how hip-hop relates to his upbringing, relationships, and family connections. Creativity runs through KHR Chance’s blood, literally and figuratively. We highly recommend you check out the “One Chance” project and keep KHR on your radar as he continues to rise through the underground.
RSO Underground Interview with KHR Chance
Who are you?
My name is Chance and my stage name is KHR Chance. The KHR stands for krazzie houze recordz which is an homage to my dad who used to rap. I grew up knowing KHR and it just runs through me.
Where are you from? (How is the music scene there?)
I’m from Cleveland, OH or NEO we like to call it. In terms of music the scene is very toxic so I have made many valuable connections here but I catch myself on the road more than I do home. I’ve done some sold out shows at home and my fans are amazing here but a relocation may happen soon.
Why did you get into the music/creative industry?
I got into music because since I could even speak I was messing around in my dad’s studio and always begging to record music. I actually found a notebook not too long ago that had all my first music in it. It was terrible but it just shows how far I’ve truly come. It’s more than music… I’ve tried to stop actually about 3-4 times but every single time I’d catch myself right back in front of the mic and would laugh in my head. I’ve also had many people that I loved pass away and many of them, the last thing they told me was to keep going hard and I can’t let them down.
Who and what inspires you?
I’ve been inspired by many creatives so it’s hard to pick just one but one that always seems to stand out to me was xxxtentacion (I know corny right) but seriously something about being able to do about just anything music wise calls to me and I have dug my feet into similar territory to see if its for me and I truly enjoy music for what it is. Emotion.
Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?
I have many stories to tell but one that will be fitting for this I’ll tell. When I was about 6 years old I wanted to record an “album” and drop it everywhere. At the time it was still the age of the cd and pushing those and that’s exactly what happened. I remember me and my dad sitting together for what felt like hours just burning my cds and I was so excited to “drop” my album… how times change lol.
What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?
I’m actually actively pushing my debut studio project “One Chance”. Funny enough it’s about all I’ve gone through in my life and just my thoughts and words all put into the booth. I didn’t write a single bar for this tape because in my mind it felt that whatever I had to say would come naturally and that’s exactly what happened. I gave the whole album a glo-esk vibe to feel uplifting but also ethereal and out of this world. I have many hidden personal messages as well inside of the production and it makes it “mine”.
What is one thing people would be suprised to know about you?
One thing some people seem surprised to hear is im Puerto Rican. Some can see it from a mile away but others can’t and that usually cracks me up
Where can we find your music and art?
My art is on all major streaming platforms and I also post more in depth content on my YouTube channel “KHR Chance”. Instagram is probably the most personal someone can get to me as i relay a lot of my feelings on there which most artists are fearful to do.
What is your message to the world?
My message to the world is to enjoy life. Be Krazzie. I’ve been through a lot my entire life and im not special. Everyone has gone through something. My “music” isn’t just music to me. It’s an experience, a lesson, MY vision. When u listen to “KHR” Chance your listening to my vision and my life on an instrumental. It’s much much more than music. And hopefully with my music I leave a legacy that is much bigger than me.❤️
