H3xtr, “ Everybody Else”
H3xtr is a visionary creative from the Bronx, producing unique music that originated with the sounds of the city and has since evolved into an otherworldly R&B style that bridges the gaps between so many aesthetics and genres.
Outside of the music itself, the vibe of his neighborhood plays a crucial role in shaping H3xtr’s personality and creative influence. Hector is loyal to his borough and resonates with other members of the underground culture who began with the same roots as him in the Bronx, such as social media leaders like Kai Cenat and Fanum. The success and authenticity of these individuals motivate Hector to be himself and build the reputation of creatives in the Bronx. These past examples shine a light on his enormous potential and set the foundation for his future as an artist.
This young rapper has been finding success in music during even his early middle school days, amassing around 1 million SoundCloud streams prior to the 2020 pandemic. Following the closure of the world stage and traditional industry outlets, H3xtr felt that he had missed his opportunity for a creative career and eventually took a break from pursuing music.
Thankfully, H3xtr is back to creating new tracks, notably “Everybody Else”, an alternative R&B song recorded in his bedroom. This song proves that Hector’s opportunity for success definitely has not passed him by, and he doesn’t necessarily need any outside players to create quality music that resonates with an audience.
He also encourages listeners to check out his catalog of previous tracks on SoundCloud, claiming that at the young age of 18, he already has enough tracks to fill the discography of an artist with many more years of experience in the game.
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, H3xtr discusses his musical background, stylistic inspirations, and more.
RSO Underground Interview with H3xtr
Who are you?
My name is h3xtr, real name Hector. I don’t know if that matters.
Where are you from? (How is the music scene there?)
I’m from the Bronx. The scene here has been popping, especially the underground scene. Not many people are doing alt r&b music like I am though, since everything’s mainly rap.
Why did you get into music?
I’ve been into music since I was in middle school. I started rapping really early on, and around 7th grade, I dropped my first song on SoundCloud. That shit was ass, but I kept going because I liked the process of creating and listening to what I created regardless of who listened.
Who and what inspires you?
Musically, I’m inspired by artists like Don Toliver and The Weeknd. Non-musically, I look up to people like Fanum and Kai Cenat since we come from the same borough. They're really putting on for the Bronx, and I wanna be part of that.
Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?
One story I can tell was back early on when I started rapping. I was getting pretty popular on SoundCloud, and I was racking up good numbers. By the end of 2020, I was at about a million plays. But then Covid hit and messed up all the opportunities I had in store for me, so I low key quit because I felt like I missed my opportunity. It wasn't until about 2022 when I started going hard with the music again but in a different lane.
What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?
The song I’m promoting at the moment is called “Everybody Else.” It’s an alt r&b song mixed in with some melodic rap verses. I made it in like an hour in my room trying to get some new stuff out to my veryyyy few listeners, lol.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
One thing people would be surprised to know is that I’m an 18-year-old with the SoundCloud catalog of like a 21-year-old. My songs range from that 2019 New York (Lil Tjay, A Boogie) typa vibe to me now in 2024 making music people don’t really hear on the daily.
Where can we find your music and art?
You can find my music on all platforms, but if you’re looking for my old stuff, you can find it on SoundCloud under h3xtr.
What is your message to the world?
My message to the world is to keep going. If you love what you do, it’ll take you somewhere.
