Prxncess "Bullet Train"
Prxncess is an Australian music artist who is taking the local underground scene by storm. His tracks create a unique sound, taking inspiration garage rock, hints of chill lofi, and utilizing aspects of the regional favorite, Aussie grunge. He uses these sounds and influences in order to bridge the gap between Hip-Hop and the modern music landscape in Australia.
When asked about the local music scene, Prxncess explained that the Australian punk and grunge communities are thriving and hardcore, an interesting insight to a foreigner like myself. Although, it seems the Hip-Hop underground isn't seeing much activity. He joked that he figured the country's lack of a rap culture was likely due to their accents, although I find Prxncess' vocal delivery, inflections, and diction across his discography to be very enjoyable and versatile.
Prxncess finds inspiration in music spanning across generations and continents. Some of his biggest influences come in the form of Australlian/UK jazz rap showcased in Jack Danz's 2022 Project "Def Sentence". His love of Hip-Hop is traced back the iconic rap collective "A Tribe Called Quest".
His most recent release "Bullet Train", a collaborative track with artist “ImTrying”, began as an experimental draft file. The beat and instrumental stemmed from the artist toying around with saxophones and jazz, ultimately developing the smooth and chill track that now lays as the song’s undertone.

The mix of relaxing instrumental undertones mixed with the individual’s unique personal flare, in both lyrics and flow, create a symphony of the best aspects of the track’s influencing genres. Introspective and thought-provoking lyrics dive into the personal lives, insights, and mental flows of both artists. My favorite segment of the song comes when beautifully mixed rap vocals transition into a surprising vocal melody, really bringing out a cool “coffeehouse” feel. Listen to the track and see if you can pick up on the various influences and aspects that build it into the ambient jazz and contemporary hip-hop mashup that we love listening to today.
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, Prxncess gives insight into his artistic processes and motivations for pursuing his artwork.
RSO Underground Interview with Prxncess
Who are you?
I'm Luke AKA Prxncess
Where are you from? (How is the music scene there?)
I'm from Australia, the music scene in Australia lacks when it comes to hiphop (might be because of our accent hahaha), but our grunge and punk scene is real big and pretty hardcore.
Why did you get into the music/creative industry?
I have always really loved music, it's been a safe space for me, an escape. I decided to pursue music last year on a whim and knew that this is undeniably what I want to do in life - it isn't often that I feel this strongly and passionate about something
Who and what inspires you?
I love all genres honestly, but some smaller artists that really inspire me would be "shy high", "99 neighbours", and pretty much any grunge/garage rock artist!
Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?
I haven't really got anything notable about my journey up until now. I'm still on that journey and figuring out my artistic style that makes me, 'me'. I want to be able to experience all forms of music and possibly compose for some films and games in the future.
What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?
The story isn't too deep in my latest single, but is by far one of my favourites. I've had alot of fun working on it. It started off as an experiment working with jazz and saxophones, then I became in love with the style. I decided to take it a step further and try my shot with another artist "ImTrying", I loved his vocals and thought it would be a perfect match over this track.
What is one thing people would be suprised to know about you?
I haven't really got any 'crazy' facts about me but I love frogs. I used to have a pet frog and people don't usually expect that hahaha.
Where can we find your music and art?
Any streaming platform, most social media, and I'm thinking of starting up a YouTube or twitch channel for extra content
What is your message to the world?
Do it all
