EJ Virgo, “ Objective” EP
EJ Virgo is an underground artist from Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Growing up with a creative mindset and a childhood fan of iconic artists like Lil Wayne and Eminem, it was no question that EJ would eventually begin to write and produce his own music throughout his teenage years.
His full dedication to the craft came after experiences freestyling with his best friend Liam. The two were huge fans of early 2016-17 SoundCloud artists, like XXXTentacion, and were inspired to begin creating their own songs by recording freestyles on their phones. It was after these initial tracks began to come together that EJ realized music was destined to be his full time career, rather than just a side hobby.
Sadly, Liam passed away in 2021, further solidifying EJ's determination to make their musical dreams come true in his honor.
In 2023, EJ Virgo's creative inspiration sparked again after coming into contact with fellow underground creative, Gavin Ross, who also recently engaged in an exclusive interview with RSO Underground. EJ had now finally found someone with the same artistic intention and collaborative energy that Liam brought to their original songs years ago. This connection saved him and reignited the hope for his future in artwork and growing new friendships in the community.
Other underground connections came in unique ways, like artist Remedy4Ej, formerly named Lil EJ, a previous moniker of EJ Virgo. The two got in contact after Remedy4Ej uploaded a song to Spotify and it was falsely showing under EJ Virgo's discography. After the confusion was sorted out, the two began collaborating on tracks, developing a fruitful creative connection over the years.
EJ Virgo is currently promoting his newest project, "Objective", the third installment in the musical trilogy which began with his debut project, the 2021 SoundCloud exclusive "The New Generation", and his first full platform release, 2023's "Anomaly". The new project ties in the 3 records by taking the lessons of independence and unique individuality, discovered through the "Anomaly" project, and self reflects to follow the artist "on a mission to dive deeper into (his) purpose."
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, EJ Virgo discusses his musical inspirations, life experiences, creative EP conceptual storylines, and more!
RSO Underground Interview with EJ Virgo
Who are you?
I am EJ VirgoWhere are you from? (How is the music scene there?)
I was born and raised in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the music scene here is pretty versatile i would say all ranging from "lyrical based artists" to "emo alternative rap", but i would say it's pretty separated, a lot of the artists here support eachother but only to a certain extent. It's pretty hard to get exposure out here because it seems everyone is just in their own lane doing their own thing rather than helping eachother out.
Why did you get into the music/creative industry?
Ever since i was a little kid i've always had a crazy imagination, it started with drawing and then slowly came to this. I grew up listening to mostly hip hop artists like eminem, pac, wayne, but also grew up with some bands like linkin park, godsmack and even some luke bryan, My childhood best friend Liam, who passed away in 2021 got me more into music when we discovered XXXTentacion and others in 2016-17 which pushed us to create our own music, it started with us recording on our phones and just freestyling random stuff until it came together, then ever since we've just worked to it and saw it as a profession more than a hobby, now that he's passed its really become my main goal to do this, i've taken it a lot more seriously since then and i feel like it's destined to come now because of my drive for him to reach our goals. Recently in early 2023 i got a chance to meet a good friend of mine now named Gavin Ross, he saved me in a way, the energy he transmits is almost similar to Liam's so it gave me new hope i wasn't alone in this too.
Who and what inspires you?
My inspirations as far as music goes are Travis Scott, Lil Skies, Juice Wrld, X, and Liam. But my main inspiration is life itself, being able to understand that we all have individual lives and our own stuff to deal with makes it so worth it to me in a way, I feel so hopeful knowing it is really possible to shape your future into what you believe it could be. My parents also inspires me tremendously they've always believed in me and never had a thought i couldn't achieve it.
Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?
One of my favorite stories to bring up is how i came into contact with another artist by the name of Remedy4Ej, a couple years back he had uploaded a song under the name Lil Ej which was my artist name at the time so it uploaded to my spotify, well i managed to reach out to him and let him know what was up so we could get it sorted out, after that we kept in contact from time to time and i got to watch him grow into what he is now, We have a few songs together some released some still in the vault, but just being able to see another persons progress while doing your own thing is inspiring itself, i love seeing growth.
What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?
so i recently dropped my 2nd EP titled "Objective" and the story behind this actually goes all the way back to my first project "The New Generation" that is only available on soundcloud for now. It's all supposed to be sort of a story or evolution throughout all 3 projects so "The New Generation" is the beginning which is supposed to be a collection of songs with some artists from my area showcasing the new generation of music, the second project "Anomaly" is set after which is supposed to imply that i've separated from everyone else and found i was the "Anomaly", and that consists of songs all surrounded by why i do music basically, and then Objective is the final section which is supposed to state after i've found out im the Anomaly i'm now on a mission to dive deeper into my purpose, it's a very complex upbeat project that i made specifically for performance, i just want to rage and feel the peoples energy.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
One thing i think people would be suprised to know about me is most of the stuff i would talk about in my music isn’t completely what i stand for, I tend to preach all the time about how corrupt the world is and how we need change but we need a voice of change, i would love to be in a position some day where i can be a part of a peace organization of some sort and speak for those who need guidance, there’s a line between music and real life, we listen to music to escape reality or to be in a new reality temporarily so i may speak on topics that may seem irrelevant to the state of the world right now, but it helps some people forget just that.
Where can we find your music and art?
You can find my music on any music streaming platform i also have some lyric videos up on youtube.
What is your message to the world?
The loss of a person or something or great value in your life is your strongest motivation and key to success, it is not the end but a new start
