Brino, “B-Side.Wav.”
An inspiring multi-hyphenate creative, Brino is a Chicago Land-based artist who has been making music since 2016.
Throughout his creations and lyrics, Brino, real name Bryan, expresses his experiences and premonitions that later become life stories, portrayed over sinisterly dark new-age beats, with hints of ominous nature. In "You Know What I Mean,” and "There's a Monster" his first release in 2023 through Ixcano Records, Brino explores the meanings of his latest dreams as he plunges into a cataclysmic war-ridden world.
His most recent release titled “B-Side.Wav." is an 8-track project which dropped on January 24, 2024. When asked about the project's aesthetic influences, the artist explained, "Sonically, it’s a more somber-sounding tape mixed with alternative hip-hop elements. This tape’s sound ranges from hard-hitting production to softer feelings, while still hosting a unique yet familiar 'darkness' to its tone. Essentially, 'B-Side.Wav' is a more polished version compared to his previous two projects. "
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, Brino discusses his creative inspirations, personality, musical journey, artistic mindset, and more.
RSO Underground Interview with Brino
Who are you?
My real name is Bryan most people know me as “Brino”.
Where are you from? (How is the music scene there?)
I was born in Chicago, so it’s easier to tell most folks I'm from the “Chicagoland Area.” Chicago itself is very diverse, and having been around such a creatively charged music scene encourages me to focus on being as authentic as possible, what's the point of copying/biting someone else's style? I see no point in being someone else.
Why did you get into music?
I wouldn't say I'm part of the “industry” yet, in honesty. As cliche as it sounds, I dearly enjoy creating, especially with other creatives/friends. As I grow it would be nice to have the “stature” that comes with swimming in the creative industry. As long as I can reach and impact those I reach, I feel like I've done what I needed to do.
Who and what inspires you?
Multi-hyphenate creatives are my usual inspiration, names like Ye or Tyler the Creator, creatives who can manifest a world behind what they put out. I love stuff like that. Recently, I have been more into the people who create visuals, directors, mixed media, and VFX artists. I want to lock in on being able to curate “my perfect world” around my music. Most of my creations are modeled by cinema. Sooner or later, I want to direct shows or act on them.
Do you have any stories of your artistic journey to share?
Honestly, I wish I had some crazy story to share here. I don't have anything right now, hopefully, that will change by next year.
What song/project are you currently promoting and what is the story behind it?
“B-Side.Wav.” An 8-track project is my latest which dropped on January 24, 2024. Sonically, it’s a more somber-sounding tape mixed with alternative hip-hop elements. This tape’s sound ranges from hard-hitting production to softer feelings, while still hosting a unique yet familiar “darkness” to its tone. Essentially, “B-Side.Wav” is a more polished version compared to my previous two projects.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
People don't expect me to be nice off-rip, so when people get to know me they are usually surprised about how nice I am. Another thing is I was a producer before becoming serious about writing music, so people don't expect my beats to be hard. Fun fact: I wanted to be an actor before I wanted to make music.
Where can we find your music and art?
Music-wise, everywhere. I'm on all streaming services. Eventually, I want to be able to sell directly to consumers. Art-wise, I would like to host everything I can on my website.
What is your message to the world?
My message is to stop being afraid to tell your story and always express who you are.
