1FamOtto, Top Rope | “Dork”, "Two Face" & "Jeff Matt" Music Videos
1FamOtto is an underground artist emerging out of North Nashville, TN. What was once considered to be the city where country music reigns supreme, 1FamOtto & other members of the local hip-hop culture are putting the Northside on the map as a creative hub for rap. "I’m from North Nashville. I know when you hear that, a lot of people think of country, but we have a fire rising rap scene emerging."
"Dork" stands as 1FamOtto's latest single, released to all platforms on November 16, 2024. The "Dork (Official Music Video)" premiered a few days later on November 20th. This video was shot and directed by Polo Stoner, founder of the independent film brand, Not Your Camera Man @notyourcameraman.
This video-shoot takes viewers on an adventure through a skatepark, with crazy color-grading, trippy visual effects, and more editing concepts that truly bring the song to life on screen.
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, 1FamOtto spoke on the inspirations behind this track. "The inspiration behind my single “Dork” was me just falling in love with the beat at first. I was sitting on the beat for like 6 months, just playing it every time I was chilling. But the message of the song is: be yourself and want more."
"Get high, get geeked, get dork—basically saying push yourself to get to high places, have high hopes, be disciplined. It came out to be an amazing song."
He also went on to discuss the post-production processes of mixing and mastering the track, mentioning the experience of how his "favorite engineer in Nashville, @Owen.wav, brought the song to life for me with mixing & perfect beat drops. I’ve been working with Owen going on 2 years now, and we’ve built a solid relationship," adding, "Ever since I started recording with him, I haven’t recorded with nobody else besides myself, so that should tell you something."
As the video begins, we see 1FamOtto and his crew dancing and smoking to "Dork", standing amongst the graffiti'd skate bowl and walking along the ramps. The group travels alongside the nearby wooded area, where skaters and bikers can be seen riding in the distance.
The video concludes with a scene set in the skatepark's car lot. Here, we see a blacked-out sedan burning out its tires, leaving the camera in a smokey haze as the vehicle speeds out of it's spot.
Polo Stoner and 1FamOtto have also teamed up on other music videos for 2 YouTube-exclusive tracks posted to the 1FamOtto YouTube Channel;
"Two Face", a music video for 1FamOtto's track featuring 450.MIKEY, premiered on his YT page on October 29th, 2024. This video takes viewers along to a scene set outside of a garage. A car sits outside of the building with the crew sitting on top. Wavy visual edits warp the screen as smoke fills the nearby air during the track intro.
Each personality on screen is dripped out in either full-body camo, True Religion hoodie, or a dope leather jacket with the words "SPEED" "VX" written across the front.
Their outfits take center stage as the group chills outside, looking at their reflection through a broken mirrored piece of glass that sits on the concrete.
The duo's first video collaboration occurred on July 3rd, 2024, where 1FamOtto and Polo Stoner teamed up to create the music video for "Jeff Matt". This song features a verse from fellow artist and frequent collaborator of 1FamOtto, Rich Mula.
"Jeff Matt" was notably filmed at a strip mall & gas station. An early shot showcases the parking sign outside, which reads;
"PARKING FOR JACK'S MARKET & LAUNDRY ONLY"
Opening clips take place within the Laundromat, where we see high-definition & stylized shots of the washers, before the camera cuts to a series of clips featuring the artists amongst a variety of visual edits and trippy effects.
These begin with the artists sitting on a bench inside, then under the lights of the neon "OPEN" and advertising signs from the nearby market, and ends with scenes of them at the gas station pumps & around a car.
The name of this track, "Jeff Matt", stems from his collaborative group, "JEFFMATT.TopRope". Also in this group is 615.Zay, spawning inspiration for the name of their upcoming duo project together, "Top Rope".
While not much information has been revealed about the upcoming "Top Rope" project thus far, 1FamOtto described his inspiration for the tape to RSO. "As for my inspiration for this tape, it’s really for my fans. I haven’t dropped a tape all year and only dropped 4 singles this year. It’s a collab tape with artist 615.Zay (ZayBenji). He’s a great artist, and every song we did was just natural. The fans love our music."
1FamOtto's lifelong love for music and art has been an escape from reality into an inner world of creativity. "Ever since I was young, I always loved music & art. It helped me get away. It was like I would be in my own world, either listening to music or painting & drawing. I love creating ideas and bringing them to life."
1FamOtto found early inspiration in the evolution of Chicago's drill scene in the early 2010s, specifically his love for the unique soundscapes of the legendary Chief Keef. "I remember first hearing Chief Keef when I was like 12, and I had never heard anything like it. The sound was different; the instruments were different, the flows & melodies were different."
Through Chief Keef's successes and creations, the young artist saw a realized vision of his own dreams achieved & a future self mirrored back. "I saw any young Black kid like me could make it fr."
Around this same time, 1FamOtto was building his own reputation and legacy as a budding local artist. "I was the one rapping at lunch, freestyling on the bus. Everybody f*cked with me, but I never took it serious."
During his 7th grade year, he released his debut song to SoundCloud, lighting the spark for a career and lifelong passion for music. "My first song ever, I did with my cousins. I dropped it on SoundCloud when I was in 7th grade. We recorded the song out of my granny’s closet, no headphones, putting the mic inside a shoebox and packing clothes around it lol."
Despite these hardware limitations and a lack of professional music experience at a young age, this track went on to become an early staple of North Nashville's rap scene. "When we dropped it, we had our whole middle school & our neighborhood, which is Clay St, rapping our song. (I reference Clay St in a lot of my songs.) When we did that, I knew we had something special."
In an exclusive interview with RSO Underground, 1FamOtto reveals "Harry Potter" & "The Hunger Games" as his all-time favorite series, shares his overall love for books, movies, and storytelling, along with sharing some childhood experiences and inspirations that led him to become the artist we know today. 1FamOtto concludes by sharing a message to the world, saying, "Always be you. Stay true to yourself & morals no matter what anyone thinks. Do what makes you happy, and if you ever get the chance, bless others."
RSO Underground Interview with 1FamOtto
Who are you?
I’m 1FamOtto. I’m from North Nashville. I know when you hear that, a lot of people think of country, but we have a fire rising rap scene emerging.
Why did you get into music?
Ever since I was young, I always loved music & art. It helped me get away. It was like I would be in my own world, either listening to music or painting & drawing. I love creating ideas and bringing them to life.
Who inspires you?
God & my family inspires me first, but other than that, it’s like a lot of things that inspire me. For example, I can be watching a movie, show, etc., and get inspired by what someone says or how they’re dressed.
I remember first hearing Chief Keef when I was like 12, and I had never heard anything like it. The sound was different; the instruments were different, the flows & melodies were different. Also, his movement was different, but I saw any young Black kid like me could make it fr. When I saw what that Chicago drill era did, it inspired me.
Do you have any stories from your artistic journey to share?
Yes, I’ve been making music since I was young on/off. Ever since I was young, I was the one rapping at lunch, freestyling on the bus. Everybody fucked with me, but I never took it serious.
My first song ever, I did with my cousins. I dropped it on SoundCloud when I was in 7th grade. We recorded the song out of my granny’s closet, no headphones, putting the mic inside a shoebox and packing clothes around it lol. When we dropped it, we had our whole middle school & our neighborhood, which is Clay St, rapping our song. (I reference Clay St in a lot of my songs.) When we did that, I knew we had something special.
What song or project are you promoting right now?
*Currently, I just dropped my single “Dork,” and I’m also working on this tape with my nigga 615Zay called Top Rope.
The inspiration behind my single “Dork” was me just falling in love with the beat at first. I was sitting on the beat for like 6 months, just playing it every time I was chilling. But the message of the song is: be yourself and want more. Get high, get geeked, get dork—basically saying push yourself to get to high places, have high hopes, be disciplined. It came out to be an amazing song. My favorite engineer in Nashville, @Owen.wav, brought the song to life for me with mixing & perfect beat drops. I’ve been working with Owen going on 2 years now, and we’ve built a solid relationship. Ever since I started recording with him, I haven’t recorded with nobody else besides myself, so that should tell you something.
As for my inspiration for this tape, it’s really for my fans. I haven’t dropped a tape all year and only dropped 4 singles this year. It’s a collab tape with artist 615.Zay (ZayBenji). He’s a great artist, and every song we did was just natural. The fans love our music. We’re also in a group together (JEFFMATT.TopRope), hence why the tape name is Top Rope.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m a big Hunger Games fan, big Harry Potter fan lol 😂. Really, I love movies, books & storytelling.
